Meet Roxanne Blackmore & Her Art

By now, you have probably noticed Our Wicked Fish’s logo and the beautifully painted fish swimming around our website and our Instagram account. These one-of-a-kind paintings were created by Roxanne Blackmore, the colorful Rhode Island-based artist who has a passion for the ocean and an insane talent with a brush.

Like the ocean itself, Roxanne’s art is rich, compelling, and totally captivating. Art lovers throughout the U.S. have commissioned her to paint life-like waves, marine life, and seascapes. We are beyond honored to work with her, showcase her work, and hear about what the painting process is like!

A Q&A With Roxanne

When Did You Start Painting?

I don’t remember a time when art and painting wasn’t a part of my life. I come from a family of artists and it has been something I have loved all of my life.

Where Do You Find Inspiration?

Growing up so close to the ocean and the beautiful landscapes that surround us in the South Coast, I have been inspired every single day by some aspect of my surroundings. I consider myself a happy painter because my art is focused on things that make me feel good and happy and that make other people feel good as well!

What is Your Favorite Part of Painting?

My favorite part of painting is that it is unpredictable. I continue to learn new things with every painting. Sometimes I’ll start a painting with one vision and it will take a life of its own with different techniques and turn out totally different than expected.

Where Can People View Your Art?

Throughout the summer I bounce around to different art festivals and fairs but I mainly debut my newest works through Instagram @rox_b_art and Facebook and make many private sales that way. I also have an Etsy shop (roxartstore) that I keep fully stocked in the fall and winter months but I have a much harder time with that in the busy summer months!

What was it like to paint the fish for Our Wicked Fish?

When Our Wicked Fish asked me to paint the fish for their logo I was honored and excited! Some of the fish I had never painted before and I used brand new techniques that I had never tried before. I was extremely pleased with the results and plan to use those same techniques for future paintings!
